DemocracyNow: FBI Informant Exposes Sting Operation Targeting Innocent Americans in New “(T)ERROR” Documentary

This type of harassment of American Muslims continues unabated. If the FBI can’t entrap you they will find other ways to ruin your life.

Democracy Now

We spend the hour with an explosive new film that shines a bright light on the FBI’s shadowy use of informants in its counterterrorism sting operations. These undercover operatives are meant to root out would-be terrorists before they attack. Since 9/11, they have been used to prosecute at least 158 people. But critics argue they often target the wrong people, “including those with intellectual and mental disabilities, and the indigent.” “(T)ERROR” goes inside the world of a particular informant who has played a key role in several major terrorism cases. It does so while he is in the middle of carrying out his latest sting operation. It came together when two independent filmmakers gained unprecedented access to follow Saeed Torres, whose undercover name is “Shariff,” a 63-year-old former black revolutionary turned FBI informant, as he monitors a white Muslim convert named Khalifah al-Akili. Torres knew one of the directors, Lyric Cabral, and after he came out to her as an informant, he agreed to share his story, without informing his superiors. As the film unfolds, al-Akili begins to post on his Facebook page that he suspects the FBI is targeting him. The filmmakers used this an opportunity to approach him, and soon find themselves interviewing him at the same time they are also documenting “Shariff” monitoring him. During this time each man remains unaware that the filmmakers are talking to the other one. We get the rest of the story when we are joined by the filmmakers who co-directed “(T)ERROR,” Lyric R. Cabral and David Felix Sutcliffe, and play part of an interview with al-Akili from federal prison. Al-Akili was arrested just days after he emailed civil rights groups to say he believed he was the target of an FBI “entrapment” sting. He is now serving eight years in federal prison for illegally possessing a gun after having previous felony convictions for selling drugs. We are also joined by Steve Downs, executive director of the National Coalition to Protect Civil Freedoms. He works with Project SALAM, which published a report last year called “Inventing Terrorists: The Lawfare of Preemptive Prosecution.” He is also representing imprisoned Pakistani scientist Dr. Aafia Siddiqui. We are also joined by Marlene, the mother of Tarik Shah, who was arrested in 2005 after a joint FBI/NYPD sting operation that also involved Saeed “Shariff” Torres. She details in the film how Shah thought Shariff was his close friend, but he was actually an FBI informant.

I hope you are not part of any recruitment process because if you are, you are practicing discrimination on the basis of religion or national origin and that is illegal.

Secondly, get this in your head. Islam is not the religion of immigrants. It’s the religion of people that are white, brown. blacks, and of many people whose ancestors have not moved from anywhere. USA is their country and the country of their ancestors. It is their home so please stop telling them to “leave.” In fact, since it is you that is acting against the law to practice discrimination against Muslims or creating barriers in Muslims’ practicing their religion – you should be the one who should leave the USA.

    I suggest you go here:

Oh boy! very interesting speech. I feel all energetic now and will hang myself for you shouting “HEIL ERIC”.
But before I do that can you answer my very last questions?
    1. Do “civilized” people ever use scriptural evidence when levelling allegations agains a belief system?
    2. Is using body parts of women for marketing purposes “equality”?
    3. Aren’t the “civilized” nations you represent standing on bloody corpses of MILLIONS of natives throughout the world? Compare that to the damage done by any Muslim in 1400 years.
    4. How long will your “civilized” economy run after boycotting Arab oil?
    5. When are you going back to the original European dark ages? as MUSLIM “ISLAMISTS” brought Europe it out into enlightenment.

  • Tanveer “Utter Khanage” Khan

A hippocrite. And no, he doesn’t. He isn’t aware that people are maliciously attacking him so but, if he did know, he would tell me to ignore it. That’s why I’m not telling him – he’s too nice.

  • golden izanagi

or he’ll probably keep giving his Muslim neighbor crappy licensed games like the ones on this funny top ten list until he or she “leaves islam”

  • Just_Stopping_By

I bet that Hector tells his patients to let go of that type of hostility while encouraging you to hang onto it because he is involved. Well, you know what that makes him, don’t you?

  • Solid Snake

He’s probably gonna ask his neighbot for his WiFi password, and when his kind Muslim neighbor gives it to him, he’s gonna torrent 100s of GBS and stream 10 shows at once to slow it down, and he’s gonna give the password to others to use it as well. That’ll show that damn Muzzie!

  • golden izanagi

I keep wondering how he is going to make his Muslim neighbor “uncomfortable” is he going to grief them while they are playing minecraft, spam attacks during fighting games, or invade them during a game of dark souls, reveal spoilers in game of thrones?

  • Tanveer ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Khan

I am outraged. This malicious assault on Hector’s good practice and character shall not be forgotten.

  • Just_Stopping_By

Okay, but you claim that Hector is “a fully qualified psychotherapist.” Frankly, I don’t trust him. I think that he’ll say that everyone has some sort of mental illness. It may be politically incorrect, but I’ll say it: I accuse him of being a hippochondriac!

  • Tanveer ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Khan

No one will eat my friend. I will protect him with my life.

  • Tanveer ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Khan

    No, he’s a Hippo.

  • Just_Stopping_By

    Are hippos halal?

I know they’re not kosher, but I need a Muslim to educate me on the halal rules. … Wait, asking actual Muslims to explain their religion rather than looking at an anti-Muslim site to do that for them? What could I possibly be thinking?

  • Solid Snake

But the question is, is he Muslim? Because if he is, Yosemite Sam up there is going to boycott him. Boycott what? His existence? I don’t know.

  • Tanveer ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Khan

My friend, Hector the Hippo is a fully qualified psychotherapist. I’m sure he would be willing to help.

On a more serious note, I’m beginning to become more pro-gun as the days go by.

Die Maßnahmen, a poem by Erich Fried

    Die Faulen werden geschlachtet,
    die Welt wird fleißig.

    Die Häßlichen werden geschlachtet,
    die Welt wird schön.

    Die Narren werden geschlachtet,
    die Welt wird weise.

    Die Kranken werden geschlachtet,
    die Welt wird gesund.

    Die Alten werden geschlachtet,
    die Welt wird jung.

    Die Traurigen werden geschlachtet,
    die Welt wird lustig.

    Die Feinde werden geschlachtet,
    die Welt wird freundlich.

    Die Bösen werden geschlachtet,
    die Welt wird gut.

    The measures
The lazy are slaughtered, the world becomes industrious.
The ugly are slaughtered, the world becomes beautiful.
The fools are slaughtered, the world becomes wise.
The ill are slaughtered, the world becomes healthy.
The old are slaughtered, the world becomes young.
The sad are slaughtered, the world becomes funny.
The enemies are slaughtered, the world becomes friendly.
The evil are slaughtered, the world becomes good.

  • Solid Snake

Holy shit, you are gonna boycott me? how does that work?

It’s so sad to see a grown adult write this amateurish screed as if he is on the precipice of some cosmological clash of good and evil. You are a middle aged man who hates a billion people, you are as irrelevant as it gets except maybe to your followers.

I’m not even angry that you want to commit genocide, I’m just very sad that failure in life leads to such a wretched existence such as yours.

    Get help, please.

  • golden izanagi

“we do not vandalize” yet idiots are vandalizing mosques

“we express our anger in a civilized way” oh yes I’ve seen idiots express that anger in the “civilized” manner in a myriad of ways from crap like assaults on muslims yeah so from these two stories your little speech falls on its ass in more ways then one.

  • Tighe McCandless

It is always remarkable that those who hate Islam with a passion will always feign peacefulness, but use war-based language to describe their conflict with the faith. You cannot have it one way or the other. If Islam is as much a threat to civilization as you say, then you will not be able to defeat it intellectually (the Nazis, the dead horse that they are in such comparisons, were not destroyed by beating them on some sort of intellectual battleground but on physical ones). People don’t like being told their worldviews are wrong, especially not with something so sensitive as religion. You cannot stop something with what you’re proposing with over a billion adherents and growing. Whether your message will be ignored, considered but discarded, or simply unable to reach all the people necessary for it to have some effect, is rather irrelevant.

You have supposedly gazed into the abyss; it’s unfortunate that you cannot see it’s gazed into you.

  • Yausari

I won’t even bother asking where you learn Islam. because we both know you never did and you don’t want me to show you what we truly believed.

You talk about civility, but you don’t sound very civilized with those provocative words.

” I want you to feel so uncomfortable in my free country, in my civilized country, that you renounce your allegiance to this savage and fascist ideology or leave.”

You talk of fascism, but you are fascist yourself when you decide what Islam is to you. – “Islam is Nazism with a god” When we majority of Muslims use Islam as means of guidance to peace and tolerance.

    You talk about tolerance, and yet you said;

    “Tolerance is overrated.”

You said “we do not engage in hate speech”, but you promoting it.

    You talk about freedom of speech, but you are against Muslims having the right to exist and live a normal life; let alone freedom of speech than freedom itself;

“I will not patronize your places of business.
I will not hire you. I will not buy your products. I will not support
politicians who support you. I will not be your friend. And if I am your
neighbor, I will always be suspicious of you and cautious. I want you to feel so uncomfortable in my free country, in my civilized country, that you renounce your allegiance to this savage and fascist ideology or leave.

You talk about ignorance, yet every misconception you take as the truth. I won’t bet that you won’t hear us out, but you should be smart enough find out for yourself.

You are by far the most hypocritical person I’ve ever seen online.

  • downwithpants

If islam is going to die why do you seem so upset? I don’t think Islam will ever “take over” the world…the best bet was back when there weren’t so many people….or schools. Just trying to get China or North Korea to convert would be a monumental task. I have a feeling it will become like Christianity and Jewdeism 😉 there will always be religious people and crazy religious people and non religious people and crazy non religious people. Part of me wants islam or one of the others to take over because they all have the “end times” when God comes back. For 2 reasons One I just want to see everyone’s face when God doesn’t show up….or if God does show up see what he has to say my hunch is God ain’t gonna be happy about all the Killin we’ve been doin. And f in up his planet it took a whole God day to make. We are the worst guests ever.

  • Marukee

So i take it you dont use gas seeing as you do not by “Muslim” products?
Seems like Pam Geller and Robert Spencer must be were you get your twisted interpretation of the Quran.
The saying ” You can not talk sense into a Donkey” sums you up very well.
As a white English man who has seen the beauty of Islam and has experienced the true charactor of Muslims i find your words extreme and sickening…

  • Awesome

This type of harassment of American Muslims continues unabated. If the
FBI can’t entrap you they will find other ways to ruin your life.

Most – if not all – of the arrests relating to “terrorism” over the past 13 years can be attributed to entrapment by one of the government’s militant alphabet groups and their extrajudicial activities. Clearly, it is not being done to “fight terrorism”, otherwise they wouldn’t need to entrap their targets, only monitor them until they try to do something illegal.

Rather, it seems more likely that the entrapment is done for money, to meet quotas and to maintain the status quo of “fighting (“Islamic”) terrorism”. In this case, easier targets are likely more preferable, which is probably why they focus specifically on those vulnerable Muslims who they perceive as being most susceptible to suggestions – or gullible enough to be taken advantage of – and who are easily ensnared into their trap.

Hence, for the sake of money, meeting quotas and maintaining the status quo, Muslims who are socially and intellectually inept become the “sacrificial lambs” for the state’s alphabet gangs. Fear, Inc. gets to continue with its fear-for-profit scheme, while the Zionists, polemicists, detractors, Islamophobes, xenophobes, racists and extreme nationalists who are against Islam and Muslims, celebrate with their usual lies, half-truths and sensationalism. Things probably won’t change in this regard until counter-entrapment strategies and tactics are used.

  • AJ

I hope it doesn’t. Perhaps, I and you have different views of it. My view of it is when FBI’s agents act as potential terrorists and urge a potential victim of their scheme to enact an act of terror (by promising them a lump some of money). I don’t find that a issue. However, when a government agency tries to blackmail someone by using a prior problem with a passport or some other vulnerability, I consider that a problem. I guess both are entrapments but I consider the latter severer than the former. But then again, the worse for me is when FBI uses either of these to tell the public that the person acted for Islam and not because of money or blackmail.

  • Marukee

    You have nothing against entrapment?
Pray it never happens to you or anyone you love!

  • AJ

I have nothing against entrapment. I do, however, have huge issues when FBI dishonestly publicizes these cases of money-induced-terrorism as Islam-induced-terrorism.
