Knifeman ordered Bristol women to take off hijabs

A MAN racially abused a Muslim woman and demanded she took off her hijab before putting a kitchen knife to her throat.

David Norris, 39, approached Farduja Jama who was with her eight-year-old son in Morton Street, Barton Hill at 9am.

Drunken Norris, who was brandishing a six-inch knife told her: “Take the hijab off. This is England, you are not allowed. Take the hijab off before I stab you.”

He then pointed the blade at Miss Jama and put the blade to the left and right of her throat.

Later the same day Norris approached Iqbal Osman who was watching her four-year-old play in Barton Hill Urban Park.

He asked her why she was wearing too many clothes and accused Muslims of “taking over” his country.

He again brandished the knife before leaving.

At Bristol Crown Court Norris, who had been on remand for seven months awaiting sentence, had admitted two counts of religiously aggravated harassment and two counts of possession of a bladed article.

Recorder Nicholas Rowland made Norris, of Canterbury Street, Barton Hill, subject to a two-year community order with two years supervision and a six-month alcohol treatment requirement.

Explaining his decision he said: “The reason I am doing this is so that any sort of repetition of his behaviour or if he fails to comply with the order he will be brought back before this court and the court’s hands will not be tied.”

Mr Rowland explained that if he gave Norris a suspended prison sentence and he breached it the time he had spent on remand would count towards his time in jail.

On a community order he could jail him for a breach and Norris would have to serve the full term.

Prosecuting, Sam Jones said Norris had committed all offences on September 3 last year.

“Miss Jama was walking to a cash dispenser on Church Road with her eight-year-old child,” he said.

“She heard shouting from behind in a loud and angry voice. She then heard ‘Off with the hijab.’

“She was then approached by the defendant who was holding a knife in his hand.

“He said ‘Take the hijab off. This is England, you are not allowed. Take the hijab off before I stab you.’”

“He then pointed the blade of his knife and put it the left and right side of her neck. It was witnessed by a man in a car who took a photo of the defendant.

“At 12pm a Mrs Osman was watching her four-year old play in the Urban Park in Barton Hill.

“The defendant approached her and asked why she was wearing too many clothes and why she had ‘that thing’ over her head. He then swore and said: ‘Muslim people, you are taking over my country’.

“He produced a knife from within his coat. She grabbed her bag and her child and left quickly.”

When Norris was arrested he made worrying comments to officers including: “I’m a killer, that is what I do.”

Victim impact statements from both women outlined how they now felt anxious when they left home.

The court heard that Norris had a previous conviction for assault and a public order offence.

Robin Rowland, defending, said Norris had minor mental health issues that when combined with drinking heavily led to unfortunate offending.

He said his client accepted he had a problem with alcohol and wanted to address the issues.

“He does not remember the incident but accepts that it must have been terrifying,” Mr Rowland said.

“He deeply regrets his actions.”

EDL to set up HQ in Luton, claims Lennon

The English Defence League is set to open a headquarters in Luton, says its leader, who has been released from jail.

Stephen Lennon, who calls himself Tommy Robinson, said the HQ would be at his tanning shop premises in Hastings Street.

“It will be like the Discover Islam centre but we will be telling the truth about Islam,” he said. “I will be in there every day. It’s going to be a nightmare for the police because it’s going to get attacked.”

Lennon said the headquarters would be run as a “charity”, as he was unable to run a business because the police had had his bank accounts frozen.

The EDL leader has a tag to ensure he obeys a curfew order after spending 18 weeks in jail for entering the US on a false passport.

EDL vows to return to Cambridge in bigger numbers

The English Defence League has vowed to return to Cambridge in bigger numbers – despite a low turnout and several arrests.

Its rally on Christ’s Pieces on Saturday ended early after only about 40 members turned up. More than 400 officers were drafted in to police them and a counter-demonstration by Cambridge Unite Against Fascism which had more than 500 people in its ranks, according to police.

EDL members said they were furious, claiming they were “penned in” during attempts to protest against a planned mosque in Mill Road. Scores of police surrounded the EDL protesters who were behind fences next to Drummer Street bus station.

EDL members were heckled by passers-by and began to fight among themselves as their stewards tried to eject a man who had a “banned” Nazi banner. When counter-protesters marched past, with the two groups separated by a police “no-go zone”, one EDL member broke through but was quickly stopped by police.

A spokesman for the group’s East Anglia Division told the News: “We are not thugs or extremists. We are the silent majority but we have been penned in like pigs while the police allow the lefties to march through the city.

“But we will be back in bigger numbers. The leaders are planning a national protest here in Cambridge. All we want to do is have a peaceful protest against a mosque that is not in keeping and will cause no end of traffic problems as it holds 1,000 but has just 80 parking spaces. We are not against Muslims. We are anti-Islam.”

Tourist Vic Synott, 50, of Ayr, Scotland, came across the EDL chanting “we are the famous EDL”. He said: “They are just showing themselves up by their behaviour. They are a disgrace.”

EDL speakers hit out at MEP Richard Howitt for branding them “extremists”.

The Euro MP told the counter-marchers the party had sent him a note “adorned with Nazi swastikas” and accusing him of being “a traitor to civilisation and democracy”. He added: “There is only one group that represents everything in our society which is uncivilised and undemocratic. The traitors to Britain’s traditions of tolerance, fairness and respect – the true traitors – are the EDL themselves. They are a joke.”

As you can see from the YouTube link, the so-called Nazi banner featured the word “ISLAM” with the letter “S” replaced by a swastika. The individual holding it shouted that “Islam is fascism – anti-democratic, misogynistic, anti-gay”, while his drunken supporters chanted “stick your fucking Islam up your arse”. However other EDL members, who were presumably too thick to understand the message behind the banner, attacked him on the basis that he had broken the EDL’s ban on the public display of Nazi symbols.

Dianne Scrimshaw vandalises mosque

We come across some pretty stupid people within the English Defence League.

Some are more special than others when they commit acts of criminal damage on a Mosque and then brag about it on social networking sites.

Meet Dianne Scrimshaw, one of the few English Defence League members left in Essex.

Scrimshaw’s Facebook wall is full of hate filled posts regarding Muslims so it was only a matter of time before she was going to commit a racially aggravated act of criminal damage on a the Jaafriya Islamic Welfare Centre in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex.

In the first post Scrimshaw rallys her EDL friends to join her.

Then posts a photo on Facebook of the damage she has caused.

This is the premises she did the damage on Fairfax Drive, Westcliffe on Sea.

This may be what set her off when she last week visited Barking in east London and her blood started boiling because she saw some Muslims praying.

Scrimshaw is also quite happy to hang around with the National Front and found herself on a march last November to commemorate the Nazi war dead.  This is from Hope not Hate.

While we’re about it, we’ve had a missive from the EDL’s Diane Scrimshaw, who complains that she was unaware that she and her husband were on the NF’s march to the cenotaph last November! According to Diane, she and her husband missed the morning’s real events (where soldiers and heads of state commemorate Britain’s war dead,) so she and her husband decided to join a march that actually, among other things, commemorates the Nazi war dead instead.

Scrimshaw says she was unaware that it was an NF march. I’ll highlight once again the linkto the report we did of the day’s events and wonder aloud how she was not aware that she was on the NF’s national day of disgrace.

But not to worry, Diane. You are not alone in missing the obvious. According to the Manchester Evening News,the EDL are planning a “huge demo” in Manchester in March. According to the paper, “Manchester is braced for another mass demonstration by the far-right English Defence League.

Racial abuse shouted in Hartlepool mosque

Police are hunting two men and a woman who burst into a mosque and shouted racial abuse. The incident happened at the Nasir Mosque on Brougham Terrace, in Hartlepool, at around 7.45pm on Tuesday, February 5.

These brave men laughed when their pal spat on a young women in headscarf. How much you want to bet they are part of those “freedom fighting” EDL bunch?

Thug spat on woman who was wearing a hijab in Humberstone Road, Leicester

A thug spat at a woman in the street apparently because she was wearing an Islamic head scarf.

Police have appealed for help tracing the man, who targeted the woman in Humberstone Road, near Leicester city centre.

The 20-year-old woman was walking near to the St Matthews service station when she noticed three young men approaching her.

One of them spat on her as they passed by and the three began laughing as they walked away.

Officers have released a CCTV image of three people they want to trace.

The incident happened shortly before 1pm on Monday, February 4.

Pc Dave Adams said: “The victim felt upset and frightened following the incident and feels that she was targeted because she was wearing a hijab.

“We will not tolerate people feeling intimidated and frightened on our streets and I would urge anyone with information to call us as soon as they can.

“The road was quite busy at the time of the incident so there is a possibility that passers-by and passing traffic may be able to help.”

The three suspects are white, 18 or 19 and of slim build.

One was wearing a peaked cap and another was wearing a black hooded top.

Douglas Murray blames Hope Not Hate for attempted shooting of Lars Hedegaard

Douglas Murray of the Henry Jackson Society obviously fancies himself a very clever man, typically affecting a tone of patrician disdain towards those of his opponents – pretty well all of us, it would seem – whom he regards as his intellectual inferiors. But when it comes to the subject of Islam, Murray’s blinkered right-wing bigotry destroys any capacity he might have for intelligent thought.

Murray posted a particularly stupid piece on his Spectator blog last week exploiting the attempted shooting of notorious Danish Islamophobe, Lars Hedegaard, in order to attack the mainstream anti-extremist organisation Hope Not Hate, which Murray bizarrely describes as a “far left group” (though from the standpoint of an English Defence League admirer, I suppose HNH probably does appear extreme left). The indignant Murray took exception to HNH’s Counter-Jihad Report in which Hedegaard is listed among the “top dozen players” in the self-styled counter-jihad movement.

Murray complained: “Among the list of reasons they include him in their list is the fact that Hedegaard is: ‘Founder and President, Danish Free Press Society’. I do not see why this should warrant ‘Hope not Hate’ placing his picture alongside that of the mass-murderer Anders Breivik.”

Let us try and explain this to Murray.

First of all, HNH gives a number of reasons for placing Hedegaard on its list of leading figures in the counter-jihad movement, not least of which is that he was a featured speaker at the inaugural CounterJihad conference in Brussels in October 2007. As for the DFPS, HNH notes that it spawned the International Free Press Society, which among other initiatives has championed the cause of Dutch anti-Muslim fanatic and counter-jihadist hero Geert Wilders. HNH notes that the IFPS “launched an international campaign, petition and Defence Fund on 21 January 2009 for Wilders in support of his freedom of speech to criticise Islam and also co-sponsored his speaking tour of major cities across the United States from February-April 2009″.

Providing as it does only a brief summary of his role in the movement, the HNH report omits to detail the many other links between Hedegaard and his fellow counter-jihadists – his close relations with Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer could have been mentioned, for example. And since the publication of the report, Hedegaard has appeared as a leading participant at last July’s counter-jihad conference in Brussels, where he received a “Defender of Freedom” award and shared a platform with English Defence League leader Stephen Lennon. That Hedegaard occupies a prominent and influential place in the international counter-jihad network is, in short, beyond dispute.

Pamela Geller advocates banning Islam, demolishing mosques, deporting and killing Muslims

Over at Atlas Shrugs, Pamela Geller has posted a response to the latest “Muslim patrol” video to appear on YouTube. “For years now,” Geller pontificates, “Leftists and assorted ‘anti-racists’ have been denying the existence of these Sharia patrols….” It is of course true that we deny their existence, but that is for the simple reason that they don’t really exist.

You’ll see that the new video contains no actual patrolling at all. In contrast to the two previous videos the two-man, self-appointed “Muslim patrol” doesn’t even approach anyone on the street, still less harass them. The video just features a lot of loud-mouthed ranting to camera, with a middle section showing an apparently drunken man nodding off on a bench, accompanied by a disapproving commentary.

As existential threats to western civilisation go, you’d have to say this one isn’t particularly scary.

More significant, however, is that Geller crossposts, with evident approval, an article from another Islamophobic blog called The Muslim Issue commenting on the video. It reads in part:

If a government wants to learn how to manage growing Islamic problems, take some advice from Ottoman army officer Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Atatürk abolished Islam by putting a complete ban on Islamic materials, demolishing mosques, and removing any traces of Islam in his country to get rid of the evil. Those who tried to revolt were put in their place, or basically killed….

It is time for the UK to stop wasting their military abroad, but bring them to patrol their own streets and begin to remove Muslims. And it is vital time to plan and arrange deportation programs – and even arrange new deportation programs for practicing Muslims born in England to be deported to their parent’s country of origin.

This goes way beyond anything that even the English Defence League or the British National Party would officially support. They are the sort of policies advocated by the most extreme neo-Nazi elements of the far right in the UK. Are US Republican Party organisations and mainstream media outlets going to continue providing a platform for a woman who posts material like this on her blog?

Hayley Wells pleads guilty at Plymouth Crown Court.

Plymouth based racist Hayley Wells pleaded guilty to racial and religiously aggravated assault at Plymouth Crown Court this morning

The offences took place in August 2010 after an English Defence League meet and greet turned into drunken violence and a takeaway restaurant was attacked.

Staff had to lock the group out after threats were made, abuse shouted and glass and bottles were thrown around the shop which at the time had in it  an eight week old baby and a 14 year old child.

Wells left the court in tears after the judge advised he could not guarantee that he would not give her an immediate custodial sentence when she returns for sentencing on 22nd February

Wells’ co-defendant, Kelly Watterson, pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of affray after getting her religiously aggravated assault charges dropped.

Watterson posted the following on her Facebook page after the hearing.

All the racial, religious and assault charges were dropped. Only ended up with a public disorder charge….. Told ya’s I was innocent WHOOOOOOP!!!”

Wells has a previous conviction for defrauding Ebay customers out of money after listing non existant Ipads for sale.
