“In this interview, he unveils and critiques the ramifications of the ‘war on terror’, from the conservative and liberal rhetoric of the intellectuals and commentators who have emerged, to the theories of ‘radicalisation’ which have fuelled counter-terrorism programmes in the west.”
Is everywhere a war zone now? How does this connect to the rhetoric of the ‘war on terror’?
The promise of the ‘war on terror’ was that we would kill them ‘over there’ so they would not kill us ‘over here.’ Hence mass violence in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Palestine, Yemen, and Somalia – in the name of peace in the west. The “Authorization to Use Military Force” that the US Congress passed in the days after 9/11 already defined the whole world as a battlefield in the ‘war on terror’. President Obama continues to rely on the authorization to give his drone-killing programme a veneer of legality. This is the old colonial formula of liberal values at home sustained by a hidden illiberalism in the periphery – where routine extra-judicial killing is normalised.
We all know the ‘war on terrorism’ kills more civilians than terrorism does; but we tolerate this because it is ‘their’ civilians being killed in places we imagine to be far away. Yet colonial history teaches us that violence always ‘comes home’ in some form: whether as refugees seeking sanctuary, whether as the re-importing of authoritarian practices first practised in colonial settings, or indeed as terrorism. The same patterns repeat today in new forms.
Colonial history teaches us that violence always ‘comes home’.
For Muslim citizens in western states, these dynamics bring an enormous burden: they are reduced to the false choice of moderate or extremist, good Muslim or bad Muslim. The question that hovers over their very being is whether they will detach themselves from their connections to zones of violence abroad or channel that violence within the west. But this question is not posed directly; it is always displaced onto the plane of culture: do you accept western values?
This framework imposes itself relentlessly on Muslim public expression, rendering suspicious anyone who refuses to engage in rituals of loyalty to western culture. Meanwhile, ISIS casts these Muslims as living in the “grey zone” between western imperialism and the claim of a revived caliphate.
What results is a mutual reinforcing of the militarized identity narrative on both sides: the jihadists point to numerous speeches by western leaders to support their claim of a war on Islam; and western leaders legitimise war with talk of a ‘generational struggle’ between western values and Islamic extremism. What is striking today is the tired rhetoric of military aggression – Hollande’s “pitiless war” – once again recycled, despite the obvious failures of the past 14 years.
Where did the ISIS attackers in Paris come from? Can theories of radicalisation explain what drove them?
Theories of radicalisation developed by think-tanks, intelligence agencies, and academic departments linked to the national security apparatus have tended to make a number of false assumptions in their attempts to understand jihadist violence. First, they assume a deep difference between ‘Islamic’ and other forms of political violence; the history of political violence in the twentieth century – particularly in colonial contexts – is therefore forgotten and its lessons ignored. Second, they assume some form of Islamic religious ideology is the key factor in turning someone into a terrorist; some analysts grant the relevance of what they call ‘perceived grievances’ or emotional crises as enabling factors but ideology is still taken to be the primary cause.

You said we didn’t support Saddam in the 80s. I proved we did. Now you are saying we supported many other people. Yes, the US has an unfortunate habit of supporting tyrants and dictators, at least you realize that.
Your info is certainly appreciated, and may be better than mine since I’m not able to make a sole hobby of running it down. But I’m not satisfied with the placing of responsibility on Washington for everything that goes down on this planet, as if the U.S. government were omnipotent. The CIA involved itself in a large number of 20th century coups, in Guatemala, Chile, Iran, and other places. But the CIA did not effect any of them singlehandedly, or do so against the wishes of substantial local factions which were the principal actors in each case. Is all this stuff admirable? Hardly. Maybe we should have sat back and let the Kremlin do it instead.
I’ll have to take your word for it as research takes time and Googling stuff doesn’t necessarily provide reliable information to someone without expertise in foreign relations. (The experts have search engines and journal access preferable to the less-reliable and often biased Wikipedia.) So? We forwarded all the same kinds of things to many other countries in the region at the same time as well, always have done so, and probably always will. We didn’t give Hussein anything that would have made a difference in the outcome of his war with Iran. In fact, we also traded with Iran despite the sanctions in effect at that time, including Reagan’s illegal sale of arms to them during the Iran-Contra dealings.
Most Muslims don’t believe in equality. But they do prefer business to bombs. Bombs are kind of bad for business. Our problem as Westerners is with commanded, organized groups of Muslims under guys like Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. We do need to take photos &etc of every Syrian refugee for intelligence agency files, and compare these with lists of known terrorists. But 3000 Syrians are here (USA) now and admitting a few more carries risks likely well within the capabilities of our intelligence agencies to handle. It should not deter an offer of asylum. Indeed, it’s precisely because Islam is a problematic ideology in some ways, with potential to spawn jihad, that it’s in our interest to expose more Muslims to life in the West. And it snubs al-Baghdadi, telling him we aren’t afraid of his butcher knives.
Either you are lying or ignorant. A simple google search proves you “completely wrong.
“United States support for Iraq during the Iran–Iraq War, against post-revolutionary Iran, included several billion dollars’ worth of economic aid, the sale of dual-use technology, non-U.S. origin weaponry, military intelligence, Special Operations training, and direct involvement in warfare against Iran.[3][4]
Support from the U.S. for Iraq was not a secret and was frequently discussed in open session of the Senate and House of Representatives. On June 9, 1992, Ted Koppel reported on ABC’s Nightline that the “Reagan/Bush administrations permitted—and frequently encouraged—the flow of money, agricultural credits, dual-use technology, chemicals, and weapons to Iraq.”[5]
Saddam Hussein first became a prominent figure in Iraq ca. 1966 in its Baath Party, then took power in 1979 and went to war with Iran. The USA did not put Saddam into office; he was quite able to rise on his own. I think we preferred the king that modern Iraq started off with in 1932. Much later, if Bush’s 2003 invasion of Iraq was the wrong move (and I agree that view is defensible), leaving when we did was a second mistake. Once we were there, we owed it to ensure the country was stable enough to survive intact before withdrawing support. I didn’t like Paul Bremer (probably a Bush crony), Ayad Allawi, or Nouri Maliki. All were corrupt. But no one better stepped up to the plate at the time. It’s likely that we support Saudi Arabia only because it has oil. The West, first Britain and France, then the USA, have been in the Mideast since WWI. Israel is basically a product of European Jews, Britain, and WWII. The USA, which has a large Jewish population and lobby, probably could not have avoided becoming an ally of Israel. However, we do not support Israel’s West Bank policy. We still recognize the territories from the 1967 war as occupied and have urged Israel to adopt the two-state solution, at Oslo in 1993 and since. We can’t force them to do it. They aren’t even solely dependent on the USA for military equipment or money by now. It would be nice indeed if the USA could ignore the rest of the world and refuse to get into affairs that involve moral qualms. But large nations don’t have the option of isolationism.
I’m fully willing to admit that Western policy has big shortcomings, and that some of the people fighting against us have sincere motives. (The waterboarding and Gitmo stuff is particularly disgusting and should never have been done.) But suppose we stayed out. Would the Muslims prefer Russia being in there instead? Because that’s how it is. Even within the Muslim world, the more powerful people and groups take control and assert their authority over the weaker ones, and always have throughout history.
The only way we’re going to change geopolitics is by creating a world government of some kind that can maintain a verifiable and enforceable peace between all the countries.
Hussein manufactured the VX in Iraq. It’s not that hard for a state to do it; Japans’s Aum Shinrikyo cult synthesized both Sarin and VX, using these to attack several people on streets and then the Tokyo subway. I’m less sure about April Glaspie, but she probably did not believe the invasion of Kuwait was coming, thinking it a bluff instead.
It’s about oil. Politics and society shape, especially in this region, the “Middle East”, around this foundation of their economy. Without it the region would be far less interesting for the West: the “Islamic State” is fueled by oil, America needs it. It’s a leftist theory older than the widespread usage of fossil oil itself: (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historical_materialism ) that the “relations of production” define political power. It was already topic of an article on this site. I’m no Marxist, since Marx, as a child of enlightenment, believed in a eschatological progress through humanity itself. Marx discarded religion as an instrument of obfuscating the masses. I think religion, as a sytem of metaphysical meanings, can be twisted into a mental weapon, exactly what the concept of “class struggle” was made into. It serves the IS as an instrument of the legitimization of power, war and what mostly worries the West: the export of terrorism. As long as oil remains important, external powers will meddle with the Middle East and regional regimes will boast with their luxury harvested through migrant labor. One forgets in view of all these short sighted conflicts that our dependency on fossil resources forges a toll, that the whole world of future gernerations has to pay. Globalization is inevitable, but how it will come to be is definable. Time will tell, if the Arabian countries will transform from oil-exporters to countries of tourism and high technology or will become poor again. Time will tell, if the West finally accepts his own concept of a world community or if it will decline as an overaged collection of regional powers.
Interesting how, in the view of these people, the same divorce settlement is legal if you call it lump sum alimony and illegal if you call it haq mehr.
Y’know, I believe we gave him that stuff. Ambassador Glaspie also gave the go-ahead to help himself to “innocent” Kuwait, which Bush I then used as the casus belli for Gulf I. You can’t stick the rose back on the rosebush, but you’d think we’d learn not to keep pickin’ em.

In the horrifying footage, a man is seen loitering on the platform of the station.
As the train approaches, he seems to rush towards her and push her into the side of the moving train.
She then collided with the side of the train before landing back on the platform.
The female victim suffered minor injuries and was treated for grazes to her face at hospital, the British Transport Police revealed.

I thought you meant that there were eastern Christians and Jews who fought alongside the Muslims during the initial Muslim conquest of the holy land.
Why did the Jews and the Orthodox Christians fight ALONGSIDE MUSLIMS against the Western Christians back then???
Could you cite an example of this?
please see my other comment to You above..
Do You actually know what You are saying or are You a troll? Would You call Yourself an intelligent person? Just use reasoning for a change, please..
Yup Anjem is a nutter , not sure about Jail even money bet of special hospital and yes he claims to not aknowledge the British Satate but knows what a giro looks like . But what has that to do with the rightwing nutters I was talking about ? Or are you trying to suggest that because Anjem is bad they must be good ? Thats daft if so Sir David
Jodie Marie Burchard-Risch smashed a beer-mug across the face of a Muslim woman at an Applebees because she didn’t like the fact that she wasn’t speaking English. Where was Burchard-Risch indoctrinated to hate?
There is no rational thought that can dissuade these nativists who blame their miserable existence on those who are not like them.
Maybe this is how Jodie Marie Burchard-Risch and those like her will “Make America Great Again”?
COON RAPIDS, Minn. – A woman is charged with assault for allegedly smashing a beer mug across a diner’s face at a local Applebee’s — all because the victim wasn’t speaking English, according to the complaint.
Jodie Marie Burchard-Risch, 43, was charged with third-degree assault for an incident that occurred on Oct. 30 at the Applebee’s in Coon Rapids.
According to the criminal complaint, Burchard-Risch was dining with her husband when she became upset after hearing the victim speaking in a foreign language in the neighboring booth.
Authorities say that’s when managers stepped in and tried to get Burchard-Risch to leave.
Charges say she refused, continued to yell at the victim and threw her drink at the woman. Then she “smashed” her beer mug across the woman’s face in a “round house punch” motion and fled the scene, according to the complaint.
One of the Applebee’s managers followed Burchard-Risch out of the restaurant until she was arrested by responding officers.
Police met with the victim inside the restaurant and noticed a deep cut across her nose, a cut on her right eyebrow and a large, deep cut on her lower lip.
I agree with the useless degree bit but why limit to liberal arts? Why not include law and business as well?
Huh? English please!
Pardon me, but your generation isn’t better than anyone’s. You are all living with your parents jobless at way too late an age. The people coming out of college today are 100% worthless in the job market and saddled with debt to pay for your useless liberal arts degrees. Your generation is arrogant, ignorant, and will be the final nail in this country’s coffin as soon as enough of you socialists have reaped what you’ve sown. You couldn’t have purposely gotten your statement more wrong if you had a team of people your age helping you.
No…. It doesn’t, but your comment indicates you like to make things up and then post them as factual. Most likely you make a habit of this.
Ish. There’s nothing aesthetically pleasing about either of them. Just because you’re biased doesn’t mean you get to make things up
“Momma don’t like tattle-tales” – Roudy Roddy Piper
Actually, if you were honest in your reporting you’d have included the fact that the alleged “victim” in this incident had walked over and confronted the woman for her comments. That was when she got clocked. In this country you should be free to say whatever you want without fear of someone getting in your face. If some angry patron got up in my business (and obviously within arm’s reach), I might have smashed their face for their trouble as well.
I think he is crazy and sits in a mental asylum somewhere.
Jekyll, kindly leave my notification alone as you promised. I’ll appreciate if you continue to honor that, and I sure will continue to do the same. Thanks.
Not as disappointing with how starved you are for attention, troll. Too afraid to mention me by name while trying to play down the seriousness of this assault. Speaking of eunuchs, why are you still upset 2 or 3 years after the hurting I put on your immature behind? What a sad pathetic little fellow you are. Still grieving over Hitchens’ rotting carcass?
That’s it? How disappointing. I expected more of your well-known impotent internet rage. Angry little eunuchs like you are always good for a laugh, but you need to perform better.
And what of the homosexuals who have achieved what this society defines as success, wealth and advancement in social hierarchy. Perhaps your resentment that such success is evidence that homosexuals are in way mentally ill is due to a resentment that a homosexual, a parriah to your jaundiced eyes, has achieved a much greater level of success than you have. Oh boy <=== CiSystematic
Emmm…no…it’s a sniley. I imagine if you haven’t seen them elsewhere, you will.
When a thread about a violent hate crime descends into a vulgar argument about people’s crotches, the value of a forum like this one for dealing with serious issues is gravely cheapened. Several blogs have eliminated comments entirely, just because of this sort of thing.
As I previously stated: generally the mentally troubled seem to be attracted to the fringes of identity as they don’t have a firm one, they would even find niches elsewhere. The human body becomes malleable, whereas the mind becomes the plow. The issue is wearing: heated political debate over an otherwise intimate matter…
You got a healthy opinion: it seems to boil down to the opposites mind vs. body., in yours the mind has come to terms with its body, in theirs the body has to be bended to the image of the mind. I can’t bear that anymore, I want to become a hermit.
Okay, but don’t worry, I will not go out and attack anybody. After all I’m not a terrorist ands I don’t have a death wish. In view of recent developments one can be quite afraid. It’s not so much preemptive self defense but rather giving a potential attacker the notion that he should think twice before raising a hand (or a gun) against me. I don’t go out bullying around anybody, so nobody should even think about bullying me around. Now who even tries needs to be taught a lasting lesson in humility. My parents have taught me that with a gentleman or a lady one should always behave like a gentleman. and with a scoundrel one must behave like a scoundrel. Everything else is bunk. (Thank you Mom and Dad.)

A mosque in Burlington, Massachusetts has been vandalized for the second time. Perhaps the culprits have bought into the idea that mosques are “unAmerican” hence they decided to spray-paint “USA” on the mosque walls. On the other hand maybe they thought the congregants of the mosque needed a helpful reminder that there are still bigots in the neighborhood.
A mosque in Burlington was vandalized overnight.
Vandals spray-painted “USA” repeatedly on the exterior walls of the Islamic Center of Burlington.
The Massachusetts chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, which posted photos of the graffiti online, says it was discovered early Sunday morning.
In a statement, the group suggests the graffiti reflects growing anti-Islamic sentiment that Muslim are not “real” Americans.
Police say they are looking for to men who were driving a white Ford Crown Victoria early this morning. They believe two white men were involved.
Police say the suspects were in the area for at least 20 minutes before driving away.
This is the second time the mosque has been vandalized in the past two years. Another group of vandals also spray-painted the word “USA” on the mosque back in 2013.

Also, authorities said, he had a plastic bag over his head and a piece of paper taped to his torso with a misspelled Islamic phrase

Indian Muslim, Accused of Stealing a Cow, Is Beaten to Death by a Hindu Mob
NEW DELHI — Amid a politically charged national debate over religious intolerance, a Muslim man was beaten to death on Monday by a mob of Hindus who suspected him of stealing a cow, a revered symbol in the Hindu religion. It was the fourth time in six weeks that Hindus had killed Muslims they suspected of slaughtering, stealing or smuggling cows.
So sad and pathetic
Shaker Aamer was finally freed from captivity in Guantanamo Bay and returned to his home in the UK. In Guantanamo he faced what amounted to illegal detention without due process; never being charged of a crime and formally cleared for release as early as 2007.
Aamer has recounted the torture that he was subjected to at the hands of interrogators and guards, also alleging that there were UK officials present at some of the torture sessions. Many individuals and organizations in the UK campaigned for him to be freed, including CAGE, Reprieve and Amnesty International.
While most of the UK has received news of Aamer’s release positively, neo-Cons and White supremacists such as Douglas Murray continue to loath Aamer as essentially a lying Muzzie terrorist who can’t be trusted. No mention of all the Guantanamo Bay guards and even prosecutors who corroborate that torture occurred at the prison camp.
In the following BBC segment, Moazzam Begg, a former Guantanamo detainee who endured torture himself, debates David Rivkin, legal counsel to the White House during the Bush-era who justified torture.
And i should be joking because?
Are you serious or joking?
David Rivkin like Alan Dershowitz, is a calculated psychopath who can calmly lie on open TV. Despite knowing his claims makes him appear insane and ludicrous.
I can’t see his silly, grinning face without thinking of those annoying little yapdogs you want to kick across the room. And I don’t kick dogs.
Bush’s poodle Blair is able to essentially travel to many different nations. Though I did get some pleasure from seeing the multiple attempts over the years by those attempting a citizen’s arrest, the ultimate satisfaction would come from seeing him in the dock for war crimes.
What I don’t get is why if he was cleared in 2007, why did it take so long to release him? That just is illogical.
Before I write my comment, Begg released a book a few years ago called, “Enemy Combatant: My Imprisonment at Guantanamo, Bagram, and Kandahar”. It’s an intriguing and insightful read.
If you noticed, Rivkin is not in the United Kingdom to conduct this interview. There is a reason for that. Many of Bush’s cronies, who justified torture, are forced to be confined to the borders of the United States. This is for one reason only. They risk being arrested and charged with war crimes.
In fact, a few years ago, Bush wanted to go to Europe and he could not. His advisers told him that he may get arrested. That is why Bushy is stuck in the United States and spends most of his time painting crap.
One can hope that, one day, these people will be brought to justice.

The Islamic transformation of America is near complete: all that is left is for the handheld bidets to be installed. That’s according to one of Fox News’ best anti-Islamist defender’s of Judeo-Christian civilization reporters, Todd Starnes.
A story about a Wichita, Kansas university chapel that removed its pews, (a move interpreted by one Christian student as a sinister Muslim plot conceived and led by a bunch of dhimmi Christians no less), led Starnes to pen the greatest article ever to save Judeo-Christian Western civilization AND at the same time save Americans the time and effort of cleaning their ass.
Starnes, expertly placed the Christian led move to remove the chapel’s pews in the broader context of that most pressing issue: the politically correct marginalization of Christianity and the march to inevitable and complete Islamization.
Starnes, writes warning us all of the impending future,
Muslims students have presented a petition calling for the university to install Islamic-friendly plumbing. They want handheld bidets installed in restrooms around campus.
This is what the Islamic transformation of a nation founded on Judeo-Christian values looks like, folks. The Christian faith is marginalized while the Islamic faith is given accommodation.
An abomination. Are Americans now going to be required to clean their butts? Sorry to be so crass here but what happened to the Constitutional right to walk around with dingleberries in your draws?
This is a rallying cry, we must take action against bidets and other forms of Islamist plumbing! Call your senator or local rep., start a petition! Also, don’t forget to thank that modern-day Charlemagne, Todd Starnes, who by the way also wants you to know that he wrote a book,
I documented this phenomenon in my latest book, “God Less America.” Check out the chapter titled, “One Nation Under Allah.”
These are critical times, even some of Fox News’ readers have had the wool pulled over their eyes. Commenter, Rufus Callahan even had the gall to claim, “i mean…handheld bidets would be nice…”
It’s almost as crass a religion as Judaism, which celebrates genital mutilation by having a party and serving bagels with lox.
As far as I know there is no requirement to use a bidet in Islamic law. It would have been pretty hard to find a bidet in 6th century Arabia. Bidet use is the norm in much of South Asia, however. My guess is that these students were Indians who preferred Bidets because they are used to them, and some of them also happened to be Muslims as well.
At least French Islamophobes wouldn’t have raised this issue. My guess is that there was probably a Bidet in the Charlie Hebdo office washroom.
You’ve been thoroughly refuted, and that’s the best you could come up in “response”? Repeating your whiny “I don’t agree” without any facts or specific refutation to back you up. You’ve got nothing, hasbaRat. Meanwhile in the real world,
Western politicians/charlatans(religious and secular) continue bending over backwards to appease the terrorist ideology of Zionism, and it’s end waste product “israel,” even at the cost of their national interest. Thats your phony “judeo-christian” political prostitution at work.
Finally, you demented gimp, show me where I “racially abused” you. Put up or shut up.
Addendum: I live surrounded by these f…olks.
I doubt that any Jewish Zionists are planning to sink into Gehenna at the Rapture, leaving the field to all the ril Chrischuns, which is how the latter are planning to have it turn out… maybe with the aid of a thermonuke.

The fact that one of the dislikes of the Oregon mass murderer, Christopher H. Mercer, was religion, and the fact that he picked out Christians to be killed needs to be highlighted. Unfortunately you won’t see it mentioned by the likes of new atheist anti-religion gurus such as Bill Maher and Richard Dawkins.
Police have identified the gunman who killed 10 people at an Umpqua Community College in Oregon on Thursday as Chris Harper Mercer.
A MySpace account belonging to Christopher Harper Mercer is registered to Torrance, California. Mercer and his mother previously lived in Torrance before moving to an apartment in Winchester, Oregon, which police later searched.
An online dating profile, linked to Mercer’s email address and featuring another photo of him, says the 26-year-old was living with his parents and searching for the “yin to my yang.” It identifies his views as “conservative, republican” and lists “organized religion” as one of his “dislikes.”
According to a student at Umpqua, Mercer demanded to know his victims’ religion before killing them.
Anastasia Boylan, who was shot multiple times, spoke to her father before entering spinal surgery. Boyland’s father, Stacy, told CNN that his daughter said Mercer asked students to get on the floor, then asked them to stand up if they were Christians.
“And they would stand up and he said, ‘Good, because you’re a Christian, you’re going to see God in just about one second,’” Boylan’s father said, relaying his daughter’s account. “And then he shot and killed them.”
There are lots of Names for the President of Turkmanistan but children may be watching and reading so I will not mention them here . His predessor was even worse

Moderate atheists please distance yourself from this murderer.
And every girl named Mary is a catholic.
A former professor of mine, an ethnic Kalmyk born in the Soviet Union, had both a given and a surname indicating his ancestors were Shia Muslims. He was raised in the early Soviet era as an Atheist and died Eastern Orthodox.
My own family lapsed from every major religion found west of the Amu Darya (and if you reach really far back, some were Tengrists, too). My mother, who was subjected to a deal of religious abuse in childhood, raised me an atheist, but I lapsed.
Uzbekistan sold all its schoolkids to Dae Woo corporation as seasonal cotton slaves. Quite a few have died. It’s not religiously inspired at all. Evidently, certain government officials got quite enough of a kickback to send their own kids to nice boarding schools abroad.
As a former Soviet Socialist Republic, Uzbekistan lacks an established religion, as before. In Soviet days, however, they had a superior education system. Now, ala$…
OMG so the chico named Jesus…is…oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
How does Bill Maher explain the Government of places like Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan? Those regimes are explicitly anti-religious (Islam in particular) and yet they’re listed among the most repressive countries in world. Interesting side note; Those regimes have our support even in light of instances like this and this.
I agree with you 100%. Watch his Michael Scheuer interview where he professes to be a great friend to Israel.
[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EH_H-tUR5Vs&w=420&h=315%5D
Regarding Bill Maher, although he professes to be anti religion of sorts, you will notice his fixation is on Islam and muslims, rarely have I ever heard him condemn Jewish religious fanaticism, this point made by Glen Greenwald on his show, that the occupation of palestine was partially due to the judaic/christian religious idealism, I believe BIll Maher to be another pro israel lobbyist that has chosen Islamophobia as a means to legitimise Israel’s illegal conduct.
it could be – but its never a good idea to rush to judgment. And the dirty secret of the criminal justice system is that eye witness testamony especially from traumatic events is incredibly unreliable. As such, i would use extreme caution to make declarations at this stage of an investigation.
the Charleston shooter was indeed focused on opposition to one particular style of Christianity – that of the socially active black church – but its impossible to separate that from racism. But the target was indeed selected with great symbolic importance given the history of the black church in the civil rights movement and the fight for freedom before that. white supremacists targeting black churches for violent attacks has been depressingly common for the past 150 years.
and its always a possibility that a person who is against societty in general would focus on Christians in what is a Christian dominated society.
Nooooooooo D:
today myspace friends = secret muslim tommorow breathing same air as muslims = secret muslim
Bill Maher is a hate-filled creature. He was not always like that. It’s unfortunate he has devolved from a reasonable human being from his Politically Incorrect days to this modern day loser on his show Real Time.
Maher likes to bash certain religions on his show. He likes to say religion has caused most of the wars and stuff like that. He fails to realize that is not the truth. Greed has caused most of the wars. Religion was primarily used to get the uneducated masses to go along with the idea of killing people for some just cause.
I do think this case is genuine, though, as there are more witnesses claiming this, and previous mass shootings, including the Charleston one, don’t mention the shooter being inspired by atheism (well, aside from the one who shot those three Muslims months ago).
:O
*snicker* Yeah, the place-holding picture on the site before linking into the story itself does certainly seem to be Anthony Fantano. Good catch.
This filthy slug put the vision of Bill Maher, Dawkins and Co’s thoughts into action.
it sounds like he was a rather confused individual. just confused enough to provide plausible deniability for the right wingers
but i remember after Colombine there were similiar reports regarding anti-Christian bias and targeting of Christians that turned out to be rather erroreneous – and that might turn out to be the case again here
Are you suggesting the press … I know its an extreem thought … but do you think they actually make stuff up ? Is is possible the press has some hidden adgenda ?*
Sir David
* YES
oh and btw that’s a picture of anthony fantano, a music critic, not chris mercer!
cos of his friends on myspace ? i’m sure he had atheist, agnostic, buddhist, christian, hindu friends too is he secretly all of them too? ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Given that he professed great sympathy with the IRA, I have to wonder if he killed Catholics, or just Protestants.
His father was not even Irish, but apparently an Englishman from Lancashire. And this mixed- race young man was a white supremacist.
People are already saying he is a secret mooossslliiimm :/
A very disturbing story out of India about a man who abducted a four-year-old boy and killed him by strangling him and then decapitating the head as a sacrifice to the Hindu goddess, Kali. Of course Hindus should not be blamed for this grisly act by one individual, however, one has to ask: what if he were Muslim? You can bet that the right-wing and many on the left such as Bill Maher would be yammering about how Islam is uniquely evil. (h/t: J. Hind)
A four year-old-boy has been beheaded in a gruesome “human sacrifice” ritual in a rural village in southern India.
Indian media reports a 35-year-old man abducted the little boy as he was returning home from nursery in the remote Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh state.
The man, named as Tirumala Rao, is reported to have beheaded the child in a ritual to honour the Hindu Goddess Kali and he was alleged to be seeking “divine powers”, according the Times of India.
Mr Rao was discovered next to the little boy’s, named locally as Manu Sagar, body.
Police officers believe he strangled the boy before chopping his head off as they found rope at the scene.
Villagers then attempted to lynch Mr Rao, tying him to a pole, throwing kerosene on him and setting him on fire, reports the Indian Express.
Villager elders rescued him from the mob and called the police.
He was taken to hospital with 40 per cent burns.
Local police chief Ch SriKanth told the Hindu newspaper: “This is a first-of-its-kind incident in Prakasam district.
Have you forgotten to include the statistics on the per capita occurrence, you will be surprise to note that Switzerland, S.Arabia, US come top of the list.

This exemplifies the issue with leaders in an institutionalized religion that is wedded to a certain narrative of xenophobic nationalism. It is not limited to the Orthodox Church but can be seen coming from the voices of far too many religio-political figures. Clearly, these people are out of touch with the original and deep teachings of their faiths.
Bulgaria’s Orthodox Church has called on its government not to let any more Muslim refugees into the country to prevent an “invasion”.
The Balkan EU member has largely been bypassed by the hundreds of thousands of refugees fleeing conflict and poverty, many of whom set off from Greece through neighbouring Macedonia and Serbia towards northern Europe.
But Bulgaria has still seen Syrians, Afghans and Iraqis cross its southeastern border from Turkey.
“We help refugees who have already arrived in our motherland, but the government must absolutely not let more refugees in,” the church, which claims 80 percent of the population as its followers, said late Friday on its website.
“This is a wave that looks like an invasion.”
It added that the problems in the refugees’ countries of origin “must be resolved by those who created them and the Bulgarian people must not pay the price by disappearing”.
When they funded the overthrow of legitimate leader al Assad. That is how one starts a civil war, just like when the US decided to fund and train Cubans to overthrow Fidel Castro and in Guatemala engineered the overthrow of the democratically elected government of Jacobo Arbenz. A decades long civil war ensued in which some 200,000 people were killed, mostly by the US backed military.
I wouldn’t want to claim that I’m better than others. I don’t see myself as an arrogant person. But at least I think I have my heart on the right spot. I’m not an inhuman, racist, Fascist, bigot, genocidal Nazi twerp. But I’m ten thousand times better and worthy than such individuals. To me, they represent everything that is hateful and despicable about mankind, and they should be given the same degree of cruelty they so callously inflict on others. And I do not mean just those who actually have blood of Innocents on their hands. I mean also and before all the instigators, propagandists and ideologists as well, and the idiots who follow them. Milosevic’s cronies who still run the Show in Serbia; Putin; Geert Wilders; the Le Pens; Viktor Orban and all the other rightist populists in Europe; the cetniks; Pegida AfD and all such similar Groups; Skinheads, KKK and all such dspicable scum – everything I HATE and DESPISE about mankind is embodied in These. They deserve no mercy and no quarter, they deserve to be erased from the face of the Earth, they deserve a most hideous nd painful death, they have earned themselves a place in Hell. And should any one of those Fascist evil bigoted genocidal BLOCKHEADS even try to inflict any bodily harm on me, even if it’s just a scratch, then I will KILL him with MY OWN HANDS!!! Should any swine-faced, swine-mannered (cross-kissing or not -actually the atheists are worse) sons of SWINE try to run me out of my house, my hometown, my Country, then I promise that I will take down to the nether-world EIGHT kuffar side-boys with me!!! Didja hear me, you Fascist swine and morons out there? Didja hear me?!?!!!
This will not work. They will never agree on who gets what territories. Besides that, in BiH it would leave the Bosniaks – 50% of the population – on just 25% of the land. Many would have to give up their hometowns forever. Not only that, teh 25% would be two landlocked, separated enclaves, surrounded by hostile peoples on all sides, unable to communicate with each other, cut off from the outside world, economically unviable. A second West Bank and Gaza Strip. It would lead to the Bosmiaks’ radicalization, and then their enemies would have an pretext to eliminate them. Help from the outside is not to be expected. On the contrary. Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary refuse to do their part in the current Middle Eastern refugee crisis. Germany could cut off financial aid to them. Then the would turn to Putin. Next, Dodik pulls through his Referendum, effectively ripping Bosnia-Herzegovina apart. The Croats will reclaim their part of Bosdnia. Leaving teh Bosiaks in the predicament I described above. Of Course then teh Bosniaks will Resort to Military means, to avoid that grim fate. What happens next? Oh, the Bosniaks will initially score some success. And then Serbia intervenes. As that will not be sufficient, they will cry for help to Putin, and like in Syria, Putin will dispatch air force and ground Units with the connival of Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria. I think the Hungarns, ROmanians and Bulgarians will even allow Russian ships to unload supplies and troops for Serbia and to let Russian military convoys use theior roads, and Russian Military Trains on their railroads. To top that off Russia will fire cruise Missiles at the Bosniaks from warships in the Black Sea, or the Mediterranean, or the Adriatic. To crush the Bosniaks as they are doing with the anti-Assad Opposition in Syria today. And then they can smear the Bosniaks as “IS” And annihilate them with full impunity. – As they themselves put it: “Kill one third, expel one third, Assimilate (convert to Christianity) one third”. Finis Bosniae? 1492 all over again? If those who can do something about it stand aside and let it happen, or make another foul compromise with Putin, then I can tell you that such a world is not worth living in, and that then Mankind does not deserve to continue existing.
Thanks – I was of course thinking of the Second Balkan War.
When the Serbs invaded Albania.
